Introduction

The Marist organization is a worldwide network of Catholic Brothers dedicated to meeting the needs of young people in the field of education. Founded in 1817 by Marcellin Champagnat, it is today represented by over 6,000 Brothers in 72 different countries. Marist Brothers International School (MBIS) was established in 1951 by two Brothers who prior to the Communist takeover had been working in education in China.

The school was exceedingly small at the outset and consisted merely of sixteen children and a couple of rooms. However, over the years the demand for Marist education has resulted in numerous expansion phases so that today, from its humble beginnings, MBIS has grown significantly not only in terms of its student body and facilities, but also in relation to its academic reputation and highly regarded position in the international community as a caring and friendly school.
